Award-Winning Actor, David Strathairn, at The University of Maine

Press Release
Apr 30, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUGUSTA, Maine—On Monday, May 13, 2013 from 7:00-9:00pm in the D.P. Corbett Auditorium at the University of Maine at Orono, Lunder-Dineen Health Education Alliance of Maine (Lunder-Dineen) will be sponsoring a performance of Theater of War in collaboration with Outside the Wire, and featuring award-winning actor David Strathairn (Lincoln; The Bourne Ultimatum; Good Night, and Good Luck).

As a part of Lunder-Dineen’s mission to help meet the needs of Maine health professionals, their patients and the community they are proud to sponsor the Theater of War performance. Lunder-Dineen senior program manager, Denise O’Connell LCSW, CCM, CCP says, “The health of older adults, veterans and mental health are an educational priority for Lunder-Dineen. This performance addresses all three of those issues and involves providers and the community in dialogue about solutions.”

Theater of War Director Bryan Doerries adds, “We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Lunder-Dineen. Our hope is that by presenting a nearly 2,500-year-old play about the invisible wounds of war, it will help give a voice to the untold stories of older veterans, and break down the stigma long associated with psychological injury. This is a safe space for open dialogue about a timeless issue.”

The evening officially begins with a reception and resource fair at 6pm, with complimentary hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and beverages prior to the dramatic reading of scenes from Sophocles’ Ajax. Immediately following the performance there will be a community panel and town hall discussion facilitated by retired Brigadier General Loree Sutton.

The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Please RSVP to the event by emailing Prudence Searl at prudence.searl@umit.maine.edu, or by calling 207-262-7925.

Other actors slated to perform are: Erik Moody (Titus Andronicus, 4000 Miles, The Lieutenant of Inishmore), Dustin Tucker (Henry IV: Part I, Boeing-Boeing, Broadway’s The Rainmaker), Patricia Buckley (Portland Stage Company), and Rob Cameron (Fenix Theatre Company).
