Lunder-Dineen was founded in 2011 to provide high-quality, evidence-based, continuing health education to Maine health professionals and the communities they serve. Lunder-Dineen retains its own independent advisory committee but operates under the 501(c)(3) designation of Massachusetts General Hospital, and benefits from the clinical, administrative, and educational expertise of one of the nation’s top-ranked hospitals.
Initial funding for Lunder-Dineen was provided by a generous challenge grant from dedicated philanthropists with Maine roots – Peter and Paula Lunder, the Lunder family, and the Lunder Foundation. The Lunder family/Foundation made an initial investment of $5 million in Lunder-Dineen, to be paid over a period of ten years. Mass General is responsible for matching that investment through philanthropy and in-kind donations over the same time period. This generous gift from the Lunder family/Foundation provides Lunder-Dineen with stable funding for staffing and infrastructure and allows additional philanthropic investment to go directly towards innovative programs and services.
As federal and state policies demand more of health care professionals, and while less funding is available for continuing professional development, Lunder-Dineen offers the timely opportunity to innovatively apply knowledge and technology through blended learning to address health education needs.
