Director for Clinical & Professional Development, Maine Medical Center
With a background in critical care practice, nursing professional development, and outreach education throughout the state of Maine, Paula White serves as the Director for Clinical & Professional Development within Nursing at Maine Medical Center (MMC) in Portland, Maine. In that capacity, she partners with the Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer to develop and facilitate the achievement of strategic goals for the Department of Nursing and Maine Medical Center (MMC).
In her role she guides operations to assure staff competence and proficiency and provides opportunities for ongoing education, professional progression and systems improvement. She serves as the Administrator for the Department of Nursing’s ANCC accredited Provider Unit for continuing nursing education and is the UHC/AACN Nurse Residency Coordinator for MMC’s new graduate nurse residency program.
Paula provides leadership and oversight for all nursing academic partnerships, graduate and undergraduate student placements, academic advisory groups, and collaborative models of nursing education. In addition, she has contributed to curriculum design and interprofessional education initiatives associated with the MMC-Tufts Medical School and Residency programs.
She has been responsible for the adoption and integration of the Massachusetts Centralized Clinical Nursing Student Placement System throughout the MaineHealth hospitals and eight of the 14 academic nursing programs in Maine. As a member of the Maine Partners in Nursing Education and Practice steering committee, she contributed to the expanded adoption of this system by other Maine health care organizations and the remaining six Maine academic nursing programs to maximize the collective placements of nursing students for the future of the nursing workforce in Maine.
