Together with a statewide team of experts, we have been planning and developing MOTIVATE since late 2014. As we researched academic resources to inform our continuing education, we thought it might be helpful to provide you with access to these excellent reference materials.
 
These resources are selected to help guide your interprofessional oral health education and collaborative practice. They are provided to us from various stakeholders and subject matter experts. We have not selected or prioritized these resources following any particular criteria. We share them with you in the spirit of continuing to raise awareness about oral health. The OHNEP program is part of the National Interprofessional Initiative on Oral Health (NIIOH) (www.niioh.org). NIIOH is a national effort to increase oral health in education and practice of primary care clinicians, jointly funded by the DentaQuest Foundation, Washington Dental Service Foundation, and the REACH Healthcare Foundation. As the Nursing “arm” of the NIIOH, OHNEP leaders are prominent nationally in nursing and interprofessional circles, addressing the opportunity for the nursing profession to be a “new partner in prevention” along with other oral health champions from Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Physician Assistant and the Dental Profession.

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) Roundtable on Health Literacy focuses on bringing together leaders from the federal government, foundations, health plans, associations, and private companies to address challenges facing health literacy practice and research and to identify approaches to promote health literacy in both the public and private sectors. The roundtable serves to educate the public, press, and policy makers regarding the issues of health literacy, sponsoring workshops to discuss approaches to resolve health literacy challenges. It also builds partnerships to move the field of health literacy forward by translating research findings into practical strategies for implementation. The Roundtable held a workshop March 29, 2012, to explore the field of oral health literacy.

This purpose of this report is to provide an overview of current available information on the burden of oral disease in children and adults of Maine. It includes data on access to care, on the prevalence of oral diseases and oral health-related risk behaviors, and describes the oral health work force in Maine.

A National Call to Action to Promote Oral Health marks the latest in an ongoing effort to address the country's oral health needs in the 21st century. Reflecting the work of a partnership of public and private organizations, the Call to Action builds on Oral Health in America: A Report of the Surgeon General (May 2000) and the Healthy People 2010 focus area on Oral Health. The Call to Action seeks to expand on these efforts by enlisting the expertise of individuals, health researchers and care providers, communities, and policymakers at all levels of society.

The 2016 State of Decay is the 3rd in a series of reports from OHA surveying the state of oral health for older Americans. It is one of five strategies for OHA’s Wisdom Tooth Project®, a program designed to meet the oral health challenges of a burgeoning population of community dwelling older adults, their family caregivers and the health professionals who work to help them age healthily and independently.

In 2009 six national education associations of schools of the health professions formed a collaborative to promote and encourage constituent efforts that would advance substantive interprofessional learning experiences to help prepare future health professionals for enhanced team-based care of patients and improved population health outcomes.
