Qualifications and Criteria for Participation

To ensure the goals of this statewide program are met and to be able to extend the benefit of participating in the program to as many qualified RNs and Clinical Educators as possible, the following “Qualifications and Criteria for Program Participation” have been developed. Please review this information to ensure you meet the program qualifications and the program meets your needs and expectations.

If at any time you are unable to meet the criteria for participation, please notify both Lunder-Dineen and your sponsor, as soon as possible. Space is limited and if notification of program withdrawal is received in a timely manner, an RN on the waiting list will be offered the opportunity to enroll in the program.  

What are the Qualifications and Criteria for Participation?

Qualifications for RNs interested in assuming the preceptor role

Participants will be:

checkbox A registered nurse with at least one year of clinical experience

checkbox A direct patient care provider who is working in Maine

Qualifications for Clinical Educators interested in guiding and supporting RNs completing this program.

Participants will be:

checkbox A registered nurse employed in an educator role

checkbox Working in an organization currently enrolling RNs to complete this program

Please note: This program is not designed nor intended for Nurse Managers or Directors of Professional/Staff Development.

To Participate, RNs agree to

Checkbox Plan to assume the role of preceptor following completion of the program.   

Checkbox Commit to obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities to guide and support:

    • Newly graduated nurses
    • Nurses transitioning to new practice settings/organization
    • Nursing students completing clinical placements

Checkbox Adhere to the restrictions of use for the Lunder-Dineen copyrighted program materials.

Checkbox Identify a sponsor within their work setting. The role of the sponsor is to endorse the participant’s enrollment in the program and provide follow-up guidance and support to the participant when the participant assumes the preceptor role. Common sponsors include: Chief Nursing Officers, Directors of Nursing, Nurse Managers or Nurse Educators.

Checkbox Provide the name and email address of the sponsor when registering for the program.

Checkbox Complete both the online learning modules and the full-day workshop. (It is recommended to set aside approximately 30-45 minutes to complete each module)

Checkbox Complete an online workshop evaluation. 

Checkbox Share the “Preceptor Action Plan” developed during the workshop with your sponsor.

Checkbox Complete a follow-up program survey that will be sent approximately three months following program completion.

To Participate, Clinical Educators agree to

Checkbox Commit to obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities to work directly with RN graduates of this program, to guide and support them in applying the preceptor role to practice.

Checkbox Adhere to the restrictions of use for the Lunder-Dineen copyrighted program materials.

Checkbox Identify a sponsor within their work setting. The role of the sponsor is to endorse the clinical educator’s enrollment in the program and provide follow up guidance and support to the clinical educator. Common sponsors include:  Chief Nursing Officers, Directors of Nursing or Nurse Managers.
